Long Beach Magazine merging with LiveLB to form new publication

LONG BEACH – The city’s two major lifestyle magazines are now one.

Long Beach Magazine and LiveLB are merging to form Live Long Beach Magazine, a publication that will expand on community profiles, dining, music and entertainment, said Editor-in-Chief Brenda Duran.

“We’re very excited about the merger,” Duran said. “We’re looking forward to growth for the magazine from this point on.”

Long Beach Magazine, founded in 2004, is a full-color, glossy monthly magazine distributed by subscription and at news stands in Long Beach.

The magazine had been owned by John and Michelle Molina. John Molina is chief financial officer of Molina Healthcare.

In a statement, the Molinas said they were “honored to have had the opportunity to nurture Long Beach Magazine over the last three years” and were looking forward to seeing the “glories of Long Beach” reach a wider audience.

The Molinas sold Long Beach Magazine to Irvine-based Live Publishing, Inc. Duran will lead the new magazine, as well as the company’s other local feature publication, LiveOC.

Most of Long Beach Magazine’s staff will be leaving, including publisher Mark Stevens

Most MLMs are scams

Most MLMs are scams

Deseret News (Salt Lake City), Jun 10, 2005

In response to the Direct Selling Association, there would be no problem with MLM, multilevel marketing, if legitimate sales to nonparticipants were the focus. The facts are not so flattering to MLM for those who are recruited into MLM as an “income opportunity.” In Utah County, which leads the nation in MLM companies per capita, several top-of-the-pyramid promoters reported huge incomes. However, in a survey of tax preparers in three other counties in the state, not one MLM “distributor” reported an income from MLM on his or her taxes — ever! We know who is paid from MLM revenues — and it’s not rank and file MLM recruits. One’s odds for profiting are far better at craps or roulette in Nevada than in a “recruiting MLM.”

The DSA errs in lumping legitimate direct sellers like Avon and Pampered Chef with recruiting MLMs like Quixtar, Nu Skin and USANA. Recruiting MLMs are no more direct sellers than a pig is a horse. Almost all MLMs are scams — pure and simple.

Halfords happy to go cycling with Boris

Halfords happy to go cycling with Boris

0 Comments | Evening Standard; London (UK), Jul 27, 2010 | by Nick Goodway

BRITAIN’s biggest bike retailer, Halfords, today welcomed Mayor Boris Johnson’s cycle rental scheme which is being launched in London this week.

“We are very happy with anything which encourages cycling,” said chief executive David Wild.

“The more we can establish cycling as a habit the better it is for everyone.”

Cycling and car maintenance remain Halfords’ core areas, and they carried on growing while the rest of the business slowed right down in the three months from April to June.

The quarter started with poor weather and ended with the World Cup and like-for-like sales declined by 2.1%, which was slightly more than the 1% to 2% decline most analysts had forecast.

The shares fell 5 1/2p to 511p. Wild said that on key World Cup match days, such as when Germany beat England, sales were down 20% on the same day a year ago.

The tournament also made the retailer delay the launch of its summer ranges of tents, bikes and car top boxes by almost a fortnight.

But since then, according to Wild, sales have taken off, indicating once again that many Brits have opted for a “staycation” summer.

Halfords said it is on course to produce profits growth of 16% in the current year, taking them to around Pounds 136 million.

The reason for

The reason for doing that, is that
it is a lot easier to sell $500 dollars in retail products
than it is in building a $500 residual income, do you
follow?

Just to give you a perfect example, as a network marketer,
would you buy a business that is worth $1,000 to $2,000
dollars without thinking about it,or would you be more
inclined to buy an inexpensive book that shows you how
to be successfull with that business? If you are like me,
you would buy the book and educate yourself first. A book
like this would be a retail product that sells easily.

By implementing Part A which will lead to Part B and then to
part C, your mlm business, network marketing business,
internet marketing business, or home business opportunity
will always be up and running, and no longer worried about
running out of advertising funds.

Part B in mlm business, network marketing business, internet
marketing business, or home business opportunities comes in
the form of fast start bonuses aka “bread and butter.” As
you continue to implement part A it will not only fund your
advertising campaings, but also will generate endless
prospects for your business.

Journal, The – Help without lending money

Help without lending money

Topeka Capital-Journal, The, Jul 3, 2010 by Sara Noel

FRUGAL LIVING

Young newlyweds want to start their marriage on the right track, but maybe money is already tight. As a loved one, you shouldn’t bail them out financially right away. This situation may be the only way they get the gravity of their plight and learn from it. Or maybe you have a friend who is having a tough time. You don’t want to watch anyone struggle, but at the same time, you want to help.

How have you helped friends or relatives without giving or lending money? Here are a few suggestions.

Create a budget: Encourage or help them to create a budget. Have them list all of their income and bills, and track all of their daily spending. They need a clear picture of what is going on with their money so they can cut expenses. If food is a high expense, find out the reason. Do they know how to cook? If not, show them how to cook a few simple meals. You can invite them over and feed them without giving or lending money. Or you can give them a few of your own tried-and-true recipes or an easy-to-use cookbook.

One reader, Carol, suggests: “For people who are relatively new to cooking, I suggest looking for the three-ingredient, four- ingredient or five-ingredient-type cookbooks. Recipes like that are a whole lot less intimidating than some of the recipes you will find in typical cookbooks. Once you get confident and comfortable with that, you can move on to more complicated recipes, although you may find that some of the simpler recipes actually taste better!”

Maybe their food expense is high because they don’t know how to stock their pantry by shopping sales or using coupons

Things like ?I am a perfectionist? or

Things like ?I am a perfectionist? or ?I work too hard?.

But these responses are JUST PLAIN WRONG. Let me explain why.

In fact, I?ll let you in on a secret.

It is my job as an interviewer to form my own opinion on what your strengths and weaknesses are and I will do so without you needing to tell me!

But, if I DO ask you ?what are your major weaknesses?? then I will be looking for three key things:

—> 1) Self awareness

—> 2) Awareness of your impact on others

—> 3) Self development

So let?s take the response so loved by other interview advice guides ? ?I?m a perfectionist? ? and work out how this can be improved so that it doesn?t sound like the smug, glib response that it is.

—> STEP 1. Self awareness

I want to see that you are aware how your ?weakness? really is a weakness.

The mysterious disappearance of John Adams has been solved, with the worst possible outcome.

Adams, 67, of Seventh Street, Niagara Falls, had been missing since July 4, when he reported for work as a maintenance man at the One Niagara Welcome Center in Niagara Falls.

He went missing just after 10 p.m. He never punched out at the end of his shift and never returned home. The bike he often used to get around remained at his residence.

While his family put up missing-person posters, Welcome Center owner Frank Parlato offered $1,500 for information leading to Adams’ whereabouts.

Friday, Niagara Falls police looked at surveillance videos from One Niagara, which is near the Rainbow Bridge.

The videos revealed that Adams had reached into a trash compactor but became trapped and then crushed by the device, police said

For those with steady

For those with steady employment or past advancements, this format is ideal.

A Functional sample, on the other hand, will show those with less experience and more accomplishment how to put themselves out there as the candidate to beat. Samples will explain how to place an emphasis on what you have done, rather than when you did it. This is perfect for those with gaps between their work histories.

Resume samples are, simply put, essential. They give you the guidelines to succeed. This does not mean, of course, that you must comply with every rule or section they list. Your history may not comply with what is commonly used. Instead, the samples can spark new ideas and quickly extinguish the old (bad) ones.
